Canmore Winter Elopement Photographers

As Canmore Winter Elopement Photographers, we are always searching for new locations to shoot. Winter is an amazing time in the mountains as the landscapes are always changing. Frozen rivers and lakes allow for new territory to be discovered while large amounts of snow make others less accessible. This calm and quiet season is such a beautiful time to get married. Eloping in the mountains in the winter feels so intimate. The slow season makes you feel like you have the whole mountains to yourself.

Their Story

Kathryn and Emile are true adventurers at heart. They love getting outside together and exploring new places. They climb, snowboard, kayak, surf and love being by the water. They got engaged in Madagascar and began planning their wedding! Along with a move across the US and a new career change, Kathryn found planning a big wedding too overwhelming and they decided to put it on hold until it felt like the right time. One day she came across the idea to elope and they both agreed that this was the perfect way to get married for them. They could go on an adventure to somewhere new, celebrate with their close friends and family and avoid some of the stress that a larger wedding brings.

Banff Winter Elopement

They initially were looking to elope in Banff and then found a smaller, quieter town close by, Canmore. They decided to have their ceremony in Canmore, tucked in a beautiful field with the mountains surrounding them. They decided to have a first look and exchange their vows privately before their ceremony. Kathryn walked up in her beautiful white cape to meet Emile and then used it as a blanket on the snow for them to sit and read their vows. In her hair, she had stones which she and Emile had foraged for, tumbled and made hairpieces out of. They then made their way down to meet their family and friends for their ceremony where they exchanged rings and had their first dance in the snow. It was such a perfect wedding for these two! We then took a drive to Lake Minnewanka for their portraits and explored around the frozen lake while we watched to sun dip below the mountains.

Johnson Canyon Winter Portraits

The week before their wedding we went out on a winter hike to Johnson Canyon. We wanted to see if you could access the frozen waterfalls and caves that you can’t get to in the summertime. After finding some amazing locations, we decided that we had to get these guys out here for some portraits. Immediately we thought of Kathryn and Emile as we knew they love going on adventures and wanted to explore the area while they were visiting from Oregon. While we were walking through the Canyon, Emile was telling us about the first guys to Kayak over the waterfalls. We knew that this was such a perfect location for them. We had so much fun walking across frozen rivers, climbing up ice banks, walking behind frozen waterfalls and exploring caves! We hope you enjoy a look into this amazing winter adventure elopement in the mountains!
